Gebhard Franz Xaver Schertler

Prof. Gebhard Schertler is a prominent scientist renowned for his work at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Switzerland. Specializing in structural biology, particularly membrane proteins like G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), he employs cutting-edge techniques such as X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy. Leading a research group at PSI, he focuses on understanding biological macromolecules, aiding in fundamental process comprehension and therapeutic development. Most recently he is interested in advancing in novel optogenetic approach using bistable visual pigments. He solved the first active structure of invertebrate rhodopsin.
